Objectives

The use of data in sow farming has been widely practiced for several decades. This is much less the case in fattening. However, there are additional efficiency gains to be made here. This project wants to use the "digital wind" throughout the agro-food chain to enable pig farmers to easily register and monitor the necessary data. In addition, the project wants to create the possibility to automatically compare the monitored data via benchmarks both internally and externally.  Finally, the project wants to investigate whether the available aggregated data can also offer additional insights to individual pig farmers regarding the planning of the moment of marketing.

Objectives

Activities

This project focuses on the level of data aggregation, homogenization or "cleaning" of data, comparison and prediction of slaughter planning. Because a lot of pig farmers use Excel for keeping track of data in the fattening house, it is explicitly intended to include these Excel data as well. It also allows pig farmers to temporarily participate to discover what this monitoring and comparison can offer. The collection of slaughter invoices would be another strong positive evolution in the sense that a full margin determination can then be carried out. Pig farmers will be able to get an insight into their profitability in fattening pigs on a regular basis.

Activities

Context

In pig farming, many things are already being digitized. Sow farmers are also increasingly entering management programs in real time. In addition, there is an increasing enthusiasm to also keep records of the performance of their fattening pigs.
