Context

Objectives

This project aims to develop plantation methods meeting social expectations in forest and poplar plantations:
1/ bringing social expectations and planting pratices together
2/ reduce the arduousness of work and improve ergonomics
3/ reduce environmental impacts of practices

Activities

1 - Conducting surveys on a large target audience
2 - Development of communication tools on forest plantations
3 - Evaluation of planting techniques and use of new materials to reduce the arduousness of contractors during the mechanical preparation of the soil, planting and its maintenance, carrying out simulations and experiments in the field.
4 - Setting up experimentations to determine alternative methods to glyphosate in populiculture and methods that limit the environmental impacts of mechanized preparation

1 Practice Abstracts

Various deliverables will be produced (article, online platform, technical synthesis) to synthesize informations obteined with the surveys, research and experiments about :

- the representations of the forest, climate change and plantation by forest owners and the general public

- proposals for improvements/specifications to improve the staking out of planting lines, the handling of plants on the site, to improve the ergonomics of the planter or the comfort of the driver's cab of excavators

- proposals of alternatives to glyphosate for poplar production

- characterization of the impacts of mechanical soil preparation in different conditions

- dissemination of information thanks to an online forest renewal portal
