Objectives

The aim of the project was to investigate whether ribwort plantain - a) as a mixture partner in alfalfa stands and b) as an intercrop after wheat - can significantly reduce the risk of nitrate leaching after plowing up alfalfa stands or after intercropping with ribwort plantain as a result of inhibition of nitrification in the soil.

Objectives

Mit dem Vorhaben sollte überprüft werden, ob Spitzwegerich - a) als Gemengepartner in Luzernebeständen und b) als Zwischenfrucht nach Weizen - die Gefahr der Nitratauswaschung nach Umbruch von Luzernebeständen bzw. nach Zwischenfruchtanbau mit Spitzwegerich infolge einer Hemmung der Nitrifikation im Boden signifikant reduzieren kann.

Activities

In practical field trials at a deep site in Saxony, mixtures of alfalfa and ribwort plantain as well as alfalfa and meadow fescue were established. The aim was also to investigate the influence of the annual weather conditions and N utilization by subsequent crops. The results prove the protection of groundwater by the above-described mixture cultivation and also provide recommendations on the sowing rate and depth of ribwort plantain.

Activities

In praxisnahen Feldversuchen an einem tiefgründigen Standort in Sachsen wurden Gemenge aus Luzerne und Spitzwegerich sowie Luzerne und Wiesenschwingel etabliert. Dabei sollte weiterhin der Einfluss der Jahreswitterung sowie die N-Verwertung durch Folgefrüchte untersucht werden. Die Ergebnisse belegen einen Schutz des Grundwassers durch den oben beschriebenen Gemengeanbau und liefern überdies Empfehlungen zu Saatstärke und-tiefe des Spitzwegerichs.
