The project has shown that such studies can have important economic and environmental implications. The rediscovery of "ancient fruits and vegetables" demonstrates that these can play a decisive role in the relaunch of sustainable agriculture, of a "typical" agriculture as opposed to the model envisaged by the dominant globalization process that has produced, as is well known, evident negative impacts on the environment such as groundwater pollution, impacts on flora and wildlife, landscape degradation, etc ...). 

The success of the presentation of the proposals to the Distribution, the GDO, and the HO.RE.CA, and to various stakeholders of the agri-food system of the proposal to enhance the typicality of the territory through the Consorzio Ori di Toscana, a leading actor in this direction in the region, demonstrates that the path taken is correct and new steps and investments will be necessary, especially in the effort to overcome the serious health problems of the reproductive material, especially in the fruit germplasm heritage.

It is possible to recover various horticultural varieties much appreciated in the past for cultivation with modern techniques. The "ancient varieties" object of the research, have genetic characteristics that make them more resistant than the varieties commonly on the market today, and having less need for pesticides and fertilizers, show a potential greater predisposition to a type of cultivation closer

to nature. On the other hand, also the fruit varieties examined, which have shown the same potential. But at the moment this potential is undermined by having genetic material that is not suitable for reproduction and which requires important remediation activities from virosis.
