Objectives
Almost every year, farmers face water shortages due to drought. Therefore, they are looking for alternatives for this valuable water, such as purifying biological effluent from manure via ultra-filtration and membrane filtration into discharge water. However, it is more sustainable to reuse this discharge water and use it in agriculture. Some local farmers want to use this water as irrigation water or washing water for chemical air scrubbers. The operational group HIATUS wants to give farmers the necessary confidence that the discharge water meets all quality requirements.
Objectives
Landbouwers kampen nagenoeg jaarlijks met watergebrek bij droogte. Men gaat daarom op zoek naar alternatieven voor dit kostbare water, zoals het zuiveren van biologisch effluent uit mest via ultra-filtratie en membraanfiltratie tot loosbaar water. Het is echter duurzamer om dit loosbaar water te hergebruiken en in te zetten in de landbouw. Enkele lokale landbouwers willen dit water inzetten als irrigatiewater of waswater voor chemische luchtwassers. De operationele groep HIATUS wil landbouwers het nodige vertrouwen geven dat het loosbaar water voldoet aan alle kwaliteitseisen.
Activities
HIATUS demonstrates the possibilities for application and the safe use of treated effluent as irrigation and wash water in air scrubbers. Through field trials, practical and microbiological tests, the possibilities are examined and communicated to farmers and policy makers. Legal bottlenecks are identified and proposals are formulated. In this way the project promotes the optimization of the water cycle at agricultural level by removing the practical bottlenecks in the reuse of water from manure.
Activities
Concreet demonstreert HIATUS de toepassingsmogelijkheden en het veilig gebruik van gezuiverd effluent als bron voor irrigatie en als waswater in luchtwassers. Door veldproeven, praktische en microbiologische testen worden de mogelijkheden onderzocht en gecommuniceerd naar landbouwers en beleidmakers. Wettelijke knelpunten worden in beeld gebracht en voorstellen worden geformuleerd. Op deze manier bevordert het project de optimalisatie van de watercirculariteit op landbouwniveau door de praktische knelpunten bij hergebruik van water uit mest weg te nemen.
