Objectives

GO AlgaViD is working to demonstrate the viability of bioproducts made from microalgae in wine production. The aim is to replace fertilisers, manures and remediators, mostly of chemical origin, with biostimulants. The project promotes the development of a plant-based product that fixes CO2 in the soil, improves plant fertility, favours the structure and recovery of the soil and reduces the use of chemical products, among others. GO AlgaVid will be supported by a network of edaphic, environmental and phenological sensors that will be exploited with artificial intelligence in an application that will offer decisions and recommendations by voice to the user.

Activities

The GO AlgaViD activity includes the installation of a fertilisation and irrigation system based on the self-production of microalgae, and a protocol for its maintenance. A system will be designed with IoT technology to monitor the treated soil, as well as its communications. A DSS will be developed to visualise the data obtained, and a module for interaction with it, through voice. In turn, it will create combinations of microalgae to improve soils and vineyard productivity and analyse the life cycle of treated plots. Finally, GO AlgaViD will review the organic certification standard to include these biostimulants as an input and calculate the CO2 quota obtained with this management.

1 Practice Abstracts

The GO AlgaViD expects to reach a total of eight milestones. The first is the implementation of a protocol for the implementation and monitoring of microalgae self-production systems. The second is the creation of a decision support system and the determination of agronomic and environmental monitoring services. Thirdly, the production of biostimulants will be optimised. The fourth result is to obtain a new mix of low-cost and environmentally friendly agricultural biostimulants and soil bioremediators. The fifth is the development of an agronomic platform with support to facilitate voice decision making. Sixth, the proposed solution will be evaluated economically, in addition to its impact on soil, biodiversity and waste generation. Recommendations will also be made for obtaining organic certification with the incorporation of the new programme for fertilisation management and irrigation control. Finally, CO2 generation will be quantified. With this work, GO AlgaViD seeks to create a synergy for the winegrower between precision agriculture (with sensors and data analysis) and land management with natural microalgae-based solutions. The project will allow the farmer to manage the production of his biostimulants. In addition, they will be able to tackle the loss of a non-renewable resource such as soil and a scarce resource such as water. The use of biostimulants favours the mobilisation of soil nutrients and the purification of aquifers. Thus, through irrigation water, it boosts the creation of microalgae and helps to reduce GHG emissions, helping farmers to align with the European Green Pact strategy.
