Objectives
All partners in this cooperation like to bring their experience in the project, to find the best solution for the rabbits and their needs. In this project the OPG would like to develop and test a practical system for rabbit housing which improves the animal welfare and is also profitable for the farmers.

Die OPG möchte mit den langjährigen Erfahrungen ihrer Partner entlang der gesamten Wertschöpfungskette, vom Erzeuger bis zum Vermarkter unter Einbeziehung der Wissenschaft nutzen, um eine neue innovative und gesetzeskonforme Anlage für die Kaninchenhaltung zu entwickeln, welche die Haltung von Kaninchen für die Zukunft verbessert und sicherstellt.
Activities
Development and proving of a system for rabbit housing, which requires to the needs of the rabbits and is according to the german law (TierSchuNutzV). The new system should approve the animal welfare for the rabbits in Europe and especially in Germany. In 2014 a new law entered in force and there is now the first time regulation of the housing for rabbits in german farms. The requirements in the law are not tested yet. So there is no practical system on the market available which is according to the german law. After concepting the OPG is going to build the system. Across three years Justus Liebig University is testing the system about animal-health and -welfare indicators.
Activities
Entwicklung und Erprobung einer Anlage zur artgerechten Haltung von Kaninchen, die ein Höchstmaß an Tierkomfort und Tierwohl bietet und die außerdem die gesetzlichen Anforderungen der neuen TierSchuNutztV für Kaninchen erfüllt und teilweise überschreitet. Durch die Aufnahme der Kaninchen in die TierSchuNutztV werden erstmalig die Anforderungen an die Kaninchenhaltung in Deutschland gesetzlich geregelt. Die durch die Verordnung entstandenen Auflagen führen dazu, dass es kein in der Praxis erprobtes System für die Haltung von Kaninchen gibt.
