Development of plant origin feed supplement for strengthening poultry immunity and increasing nutritional value of eggs with omega-3 fatty acids

Objectives
The aim of the project is to evaluate the composition of fatty acids in various microalgae and to investigate the options of enriching eggs with omega-3 fatty acids by adding microalgae to feed mixtures for laying hens. In the long term, to evaluate the effect of microalgae supplement with increased content of omega-3 fatty acids on the productivity and health of laying hens, including the immunity and the functioning of the digestive system.
Objectives
Projekta mērķis ir novērtēt taukskābju kompozīciju dažādās mikroaļģēs un izpētīt iespējas bagātināt olas ar omega-3 taukskābēm, pievienojot mikroaļģes dējējvistu barības maisījumiem. Ilgtermiņā izvērtēt mikroaļģu piedevas ar paaugstinātu omega-3 taukskābju saturu ietekmi uz dējējvistu produktivitāti un veselību, tajā skaitā uz imunitāti un gremošanas sistēmas darbību.
Activities
1. Strengthening of immunity of laying hens and increasing of productivity, by use of microalgae biomass with a higher content of omega-3 fatty acids as well as assessing its effectiveness in farms.
2. Development and approbation of new mixotrophic microalgae cultivation method, which advantages should be evaluated further for commercialization.
3. Improvement of omega-3 extraction method, to supplement feed mixtures for laying hens with omega-3 fatty acids. Also, feed mixture will be enriched directly with microalgae biomass to serve as a source of proteins, vitamins and antioxidants.
Activities
1. Stiprināt dējējvistu imunitāti un uzlabot produktivitāti, izmantojot mikroaļģu biomasu ar paaugstinātu omega-3 taukskābju saturu, kā arī novērtēt tās efektivitāti saimniecībās.
2. Izstrādāt un aprobēt jaunu mikroaļģu miksotrofas kultivācijas metodi, kuras priekšrocības ir jānovērtē tālākai komercializācijai.
3. Uzlabot metodi omega-3 ekstrakcijai, kur iegūtās omega-3 taukskābes tiks pievienotas dējējvistu barības maisījumiem. Papildus tam barības maisījumu paredzēts bagātināt arī mikroaļģu biomasu pa tiešo, lai tā kalpotu par proteīnu, vitamīnu un antioksidantu avotu.
