Objectives
The current forestry management of the Nure Valley woods is poorly organized and realized with no planning. This leads to negative effects both in terms of environmental and wood quality.
The project aimed to start new wood productions encouraging cooperation between local producers and creating new economic and job opportunities for the local population. One of the objectives was to realize packaged firewood and smoking wood, both innovative productions for the area. The project also aimed to identify the best legal form of associated land management among those existing in Italy.

L’attuale gestione forestale dei boschi della Val Nure risulta poco organizzata e priva di pianificazione, con conseguenti effetti negativi sia dal punto di vista ambientale sia in termini di qualità del legname ottenuto. Il progetto si prefiggeva di avviare nuove produzioni legnose a maggiore valore aggiunto, favorendo la cooperazione tra gli operatori locali e creando nuove opportunità economiche e lavorative per la popolazione. Il progetto mirava altresì ad individuare la migliore forma di gestione associata dei terreni tra quelle attualmente esistenti in Italia.

Study of the different legal forms of associated land management to identify the best system for the Nure Valley.

1 Practice Abstracts
The project let to understand the actual status of the Nure Valley woods and the possible positive effects resulting from a better forestry management, considering both the wood productions and the improvement in terms of ecosystem services.
The project activities made it possible to realize a local production for packaged firewood and smoking wood. Both the two types of productions are new for the considered territory, therefore the project let to test their trade potentials and the local request. This is particularly important to continue these activities in the future and to start a coordinated forestry management. To help this process the project also identified the best legal form of associated land management considering the territory and its characteristics. The suggested system is implemented in several Italian Regions, but it is innovative for Emilia-Romagna.
It was also possible to understand the high interest both of local wood producers and population for developing an associated forestry management in the Nure Valley as to create new economic opportunities as to improve the environmental quality of the forests.
Il progetto ha permesso di conoscere lo stato attuale dei boschi e le potenzialità legate ad una migliore gestione forestale, sia in termini di produzioni ottenibili che di incremento dei servizi ecosistemici offerti dalle superfici boschive.
Le azioni realizzate hanno permesso di avviare una piccola produzione di legna da ardere confezionata e legni varietali per affumicatura. Tali produzioni risultano innovative per il territorio su cui il progetto è stato condotto e la realizzazione del Piano ha permesso di verificare le potenzialità di commercializzazione esistenti e l’interesse per i prodotti proposti.
I risultati raccolti rappresentano un punto di partenza importante per proseguire tali produzioni anche in futuro e per avviare una gestione coordinata dei boschi della vallata. Lo studio delle possibili forme di gestione associata ha inoltre evidenziato le opportunità legate all’associazione fondiaria, una modalità già realizzata in diverse Regioni italiane ma che risulta una forma ancora inesplorata per l’Emilia-Romagna.
L’interesse per l’avvio di una gestione forestale coordinata e organizzata è risultato evidente sia tra i partner che hanno partecipato al Gruppo Operativo, sia tra gli operatori della Val Nure a cui è stato descritto il progetto durante gli eventi divulgativi realizzati.
