Climate-adaptive dairy farming in Friesland

Activities
The challenges in the rural area for water, nature and climate call for fundamental changes in dairy farming. Moreover, the adjustments requested vary from one soil to another (clay, sand and peat). This project focuses on the province of Friesland, where these types of land all occur. Within this project, the project partners (knowledge institutes, farmers and province) will design a Fieldlab, with a sub-field lab per type of land. The Fieldlab to be designed should form the basis for (system) innovation, research and knowledge sharing. This helps Friese dairy farming to address the climate, water and nature challenges and to contribute to meeting agreed target values and standards in these areas.
Activities
De opgaven in het landelijk gebied voor water, natuur en klimaat vragen om fundamentele veranderingen in de melkveehouderij. De gevraagde aanpassingen verschillen bovendien per bodemsoort (klei, zand en veen). Dit project richt zich op de provincie Friesland, waar deze grondsoorten alle drie voorkomen. Binnen dit project gaan de projectpartners (kennisinstellingen, landbouwers en provincie) een fieldlab ontwerpen, met een sub-fieldlab per grondsoort. De te ontwerpen fieldlab moet de basis vormen voor (systeem)innovatie, onderzoek en kennisdeling. Dit helpt de Friese melkveehouderij de klimaat-, water- en natuuruitdagingen het hoofd te bieden en bijte dragen aan het halen van afgesproken streefwaarden- en normen in deze domeinen.

1 Practice Abstracts
The tasks in rural areas for water, nature and climate require fundamental changes in the dairy farming sector. Together with various stakeholders (the operational group), we want to enable (system) innovation within the dairy farming sector in the Northern Netherlands through field labs. In this project we create a design for a dairy farm field lab with three soil type-related sub-field labs, which form the basis for innovation, research and knowledge sharing.
De opgaven in het landelijk gebied voor water, natuur en klimaat vragen om fundamentele veranderingen in de melkveehouderij sector. Met diverse stakeholders (de operationele groep) willen we (systeem)innovatie binnen de melkveehouderijsector in Noord-Nederland mogelijk maken via fieldlabs. In dit project maken we een ontwerp voor een fieldlab melkveehouderij met een drietal grondsoort gebonden sub-fieldlabs, die de basis vormen voor innovatie, onderzoek en kennisdeling.
