Objectives
The AMCRA objective is to obtain a 65% reduction in antibiotic use in Belgium by 2024 compared to 2011. In order to achieve the objectives and to reinforce the positive evolution, new actions are needed in the pig breeding sector. The operational group aims to develop an alternative earning model that gives an economic value to the absence of antibiotics during the entire life of the pig. This requires individual animal monitoring at the level of the pig farm.
Objectives
De AMCRA doelstelling is om een reductie van 65% in antibioticumgebruik in België te bekomen tegen 2024 ten opzichte van 2011. Om de doelstellingen te halen en de positieve evolutie bijkomend kracht bij te zetten zijn er nieuwe acties nodig in de varkenshouderij. De operationele groep heeft als doel een alternatief verdienmodel te ontwikkelen dat een economische waardering geeft aan de afwezigheid van antibiotica tijdens het volledige leven van het varken. Hiervoor is individuele dieropvolging op het niveau van het varkensbedrijf van toepassing.
Activities
The project will initially establish contact with the processing industry, traders and sellers of pork, in order to identify the potential in the market. Based on this information, the most appropriate channels will be used to start up an earnings model for pigs raised entirely without antibiotics. Subsequently, efforts will be made to obtain the desired traceability. Good agreements with the chain partners are important for the traceability and the exchange of the data. The use of antibiotics at individual animal level will be monitored on the farms in order to identify the additional costs of tracing.
Activities
Het project zal in eerste instantie contact leggen met de verwerkende industrie, handelaars en verkopers van varkensvlees, om na te gaan welk potentieel er in de markt aanwezig is. Op basis van deze informatie zal er ingezet worden op de meest geschikte kanalen om een verdienmodel op te starten voor de volledig antibioticavrij opgegroeide varkens. Vervolgens zal er ingezet worden op het verkrijgen van de gewenste traceerbaarheid. Goede afspraken met de ketenpartners zijn belangrijk voor de traceerbaarheid en de doorstroming van de data. Het antibioticagebruik op individueel dierniveau zal op de praktijkbedrijven gemonitord worden, zodat de meerkost van tracering in kaart gebracht wordt.
