1 Practice Abstracts
Agroforestry -the practical integration of woody plants into an agricultural system, has the potential to contribute to both climate adaptation, and the provision of multiple ecosystem services. This movement is growing, but there are clear bottlenecks and development questions. One bottleneck is the investment spike during construction, with several years without return; integration with transitional species can reduce the risks. This project investigates the (im)possibilities and intermediate agronomic and social returns, solving a prominent knowledge gap.

Agroforestry -het praktisch integreren van houtigen in een agrarisch systeem, kent de potentie bij te dragen aan zowel klimaatadaptie, als het leveren van meervoudige ecosysteemdiensten. Deze beweging is groeiende, maar er zijn duidelijke knelpunten en ontwikkelingsvragen. Eén knelpunt is de investeringspiek bij aanleg, met enkele jaren zonder opbrengst; integratie met overgangssoorten kan de risico’s verlagen. Dit project onderzoekt de (on)mogelijkheden en tussentijdse agronomische en maatschappelijke opbrengsten, waarmee een prominent kennishiaat wordt opgelost.
