Objectives
This project developed and successfully demonstrated new approaches and resources that will now enable commercial farms to test their own ideas i.e. embrace ‘action research’. These can be used to facilitate future action research under real-life farming conditions, hence energise progress in farming

Activities
Over the course of the project, three Ideas Labs and one Messages Lab were held, five Farm Innovation Groups (FIGs) were formed, and these carried out 48 tramline trials focussing on the following ideas for crop yield enhancement: 1. Amino Acids 2. Spring Potash 3. Crop Momentum 4. Oilseed Rape Cross Drilling 5. Deeper Rooting

Context
The YEN Yield-testing system was developed as a result of ongoing research, part funded by Innovate UK. It consists of novel protocols, statistical techniques and software. Previously, this technology has been used to demonstrate the impact of agricultural chemicals on crop productivity, but in this project we demonstrated that the approach can be used by farmers in a new way, to assist them in testing their own ideas. There is currently no other system available to farmers to reliably compare in-field treatments in this way.
