1 Practice Abstracts
A pilot room was created for the industrial breeding of Tenebrio Molitor, where a vertical breeding system of 16 heights was opted for. In this way, a breeding capacity of 300Kg of Tenebrio/month was reached.
Two feeds were formulated with insect meal, with 10% and 15% meal respectively.
Two feeding tests with chickens were carried out; the first on an experimental farm and the second on a commercial farm.
The lack of clear regulations for the use of insects in poultry farming at the time of development of the project, forced us to reduce the scope of the test to a total of 400 chickens.
The growth of the chickens has been similar (comparison with Soy). No notable advantage has been seen in terms of growth rates, so since it is not a competitive alternative in terms of price, the consortium sees it as interesting to explore other routes of greater value, such as:
a. incorporate whole/dehydrated insects as a supplement to the diets of free-range chickens.
b. Improvement of organoleptic factors (flavor and color)
c. sustainable feed
c. Piensos sostenibles
