Objectives
(1) to develop and demonstrate suitable approaches to the production of organic canola (oilseed rape) in Scotland; (2) to benchmark different approaches implemented against key agronomic criteria; (3) to increase farmer confidence in growing the crop; (4) to provide a set of grower guidelines for Scottish farmers that can be adapted for their own farms; (5) to use the Operational Group as a conduit for discussion between farmers and other stakeholders throughout the duration of the project; (6) to disseminate the benefits of the project to the organic industry throughout Scotland, the UK and EU through articles, press coverage, social media, presentations at KT events and final report.

Activities
Operational Group (OG) set up and project facilitation activities on a regular basis. Development of demo plots on 3 pilot study farms using different agronomic approaches / treatments to grow the crop. Undertake a set of basic crop / field assessments for benchmarking purposes on each of the treatments investigated on each pilot study farm at key times in the season. Including, e.g. plant counts, vigour, weed species, ground cover (crop and weeds), disease and pest pressure observations and yield estimate. These will be complimented by soil and crop quality assessments when possible. Delivery of 3 on-farm events which will be used to develop informative videos and grower guidelines..
