Activities

LORT’INNOV builds a full value chain around nettle, from seed to processing. The project includes selecting clones suited to the Grand Est climate, producing certified local seeds, and optimizing technical practices for large-scale cultivation. It develops specific equipment for planting, harvesting different plant parts (leaves, stems, roots), and fiber processing. Trials aim to improve fiber quality (with or without retting) and extract high-value compounds for cosmetics and nutraceuticals. The project also includes life cycle and carbon footprint analysis, and creates dissemination tools: best practice guides, videos, training sessions, and technical field days. The goal is to provide farmers with practical, traceable, and profitable solutions to diversify their crops and access new markets.

Activities

LORT’INNOV développe une filière complète autour de l’ortie, de la semence à la transformation. Le projet comprend la sélection de clones adaptés au climat du Grand Est, la production locale de semences certifiées, et l’optimisation des itinéraires techniques pour une culture à grande échelle. Il prévoit la mise au point de matériels spécifiques pour la plantation, la récolte différenciée des feuilles, tiges et racines, et le traitement des fibres. Des essais sont menés pour améliorer la qualité des fibres textiles (avec ou sans rouissage) et pour extraire des molécules à haute valeur ajoutée pour la cosmétique et la nutraceutique. Le projet inclut aussi l’analyse du cycle de vie et du bilan carbone, ainsi que la création d’outils de diffusion : guide de bonnes pratiques, vidéos, formations et journées techniques. L’objectif est de fournir aux agriculteurs des solutions concrètes, traçables et rentables pour diversifier leurs productions et accéder à de nouveaux marchés.

LORT’INNOV aims to develop an innovative nettle-based value chain by overcoming technical barriers in cultivation, harvesting, and processing. The project will enable farmers to produce traceable nettle at industrial scale and access new markets in textiles, cosmetics, and nutraceuticals, while fully utilizing all parts of the plant.

LORT’INNOV vise à structurer une filière innovante autour de l’ortie en levant les freins techniques à sa culture, sa récolte et sa transformation. Le projet permettra aux agriculteurs de produire de l’ortie traçable à grande échelle et d’accéder à de nouveaux débouchés dans les secteurs textile, cosmétique et nutraceutique, tout en valorisant l’ensemble de la plante.
