1 Practice Abstracts

The cause of the project is hidden in a world where sustainability and animal welfare are becoming increasingly important themes. Here, the project introduces an innovative approach to chicken nutrition that can contribute to animal welfare and the environment. By feeding live black solda fly (BSF) larvae to chickens, they are provided with nutrients that stimulate their natural behaviour and improve their health status. This project focuses not only on the benefits for the chickens and the environmental impact, but also on building a broader societal understanding and acceptance of this new feeding practice through an innovative business model.

De aanleiding voor het project ligt verscholen in een wereld waar duurzaamheid en dierenwelzijn steeds belangrijkere thema’s worden. Hier introduceert het project een innovatieve benadering van kippenvoeding die kan bijdragen aan het welzijn van de dieren en het milieu. Door levende zwarte soldaatvlieg (BSF) larven aan kippen te voeren, worden deze voorzien van voedingsstoffen die hun natuurlijke gedrag stimuleren en hun gezondheidsstatus verbeteren. Dit project richt zich niet alleen op de voordelen voor de kippen en de milieu-impact, maar ook op het bouwen van een breder maatschappelijk begrip en acceptatie van deze nieuwe voederpraktijk middels een vernieuwend verdienmodel.
