Health improvement of dairy herds through optimized animal welfare, use of biopreparations and phytopreparations leading to reduced use of antibiotics

Objectives
Overall objective of the project - to draw the attention of rural development participants to a problem of increasing pathogenic microorganisms' antibiotic resistance which is relevant in Lithuania and world-wide and to encourage the participants to deal with the problem by decreasing the use of antibiotics, applying targeted and rational antibiotic therapy thus improving animal welfare and health. During the project, the model of complex measures will be introduced which will ensure the decrease of pathogenic microorganisms' antibiotic resistance". The implementation of the model will be recommended for people working in livestock sectors.
Objectives
Bendrasis projekto tikslas – atkreipti kaimo plėtros dalyvių dėmesį į Lietuvai ir visam pasauliui aktualią patogeninių mikroorganizmų atsparumo antibiotikams didėjimo problemą ir paskatinti ją spręsti mažinant antibiotikų naudojimą, taikant kryptingą ir racionalią antibiotikų terapiją gerinant gyvūnų gerovę ir sveikatingumą. Projekto metu bus įdiegtas kompleksinių priemonių modelis, užtikrinantis patogeninių mikrooganizmų atsparumo antibiotikams mažėjimą, kurį bus skatinama savo ūkiuose įdiegti kuo daugiau gyvulininkystės sektoriuose dirbančių asmenų.
Activities
In order to decrease the amounts of antibiotics used in the treatment of calves and cows, the animal welfare has been optimised, their health has been improved, and innovative compositions of biopreparations and phytopreparations have been used on the project partner farms. Bacteriological tests are performed regularly, the changes in bacteriological background and resistance of bacteria to antimicrobials in dairy cow herds during the past two years are studied. Educational events for farmers and veterinarians will be organised in various regions of Lithuania.

Siekiant sumažinti veršelių ir karvių ligų gydymui sunaudojamų antibiotikų kiekius, projekto partnerių ūkiuose optimizuota gyvūnų gerovė ir pagerintas sveikatingumas, panaudotos inovatyvios biopreparatų ir fitopreparatų kompozicijos. Reguliariai atliekami bakteriologiniai tyrimai, tiriami pieninių karvių bandose per 2 metus įvykę bakteriologinio fono ir bakterijų atsparumo antimikrobinėms medžiagoms pokyčiai. Įvairiuose Lietuvos regionuose bus organizuojami šviečiamieji renginiai ūkininkams ir veterinarijos gydytojams.

Expected project result - a healthier and more productive dairy herd. The introduction of the model of complex measures aimed at decreasing pathogenic microorganisms' antibiotic resistance in Lithuanian dairy farms would improve animal health thus decreasing expenditures for medicaments and veterinary services, increasing productivity of cows, decreasing damage related to death and weight loss of animals. During the project, the implementation of complex measures related to the decrease as well as targeted and rational use of antibiotics in six Partner dairy farms will result in decrease of pathogenic microorganisms' antibiotic resistance, easier treatment of infectious diseases, and smaller amounts of medicaments for treatment of one animal. Due to the improvement of animal health and optimisation of animal welfare, the quality of production and incomes from realised production will increase, while expenditures for treatment and cost price of milk will decrease. The complex model of targeted and rational use of antibiotics, which will be tested during the project and adapted to dairy farms of various sizes, could be implemented in Lithuanian dairy farms, and the model itself, as an example, could be applied to other livestock sectors. At the end of the project, recommendations for dairy farm owners regarding targeted and rational use of antibiotics, application of compositions of biopreparations and phytopreparations with antimicrobial features to dairy farms will be prepared in order to strengthen animal immune system and improve animal health.
Prognozuojamas projekto rezultatas – sveikesnė ir produktyvesnė pieninė banda. Lietuvos pieno ūkiuose diegiant patogeninių mikroorganizmų atsparumo antibiotikams mažinimui kompleksinių priemonių modelį, pagerėtų gyvulių sveikatingumas, todėl sumažėtų išlaidos medikamentams, veterinarijos paslaugoms, padidėtų karvių produktyvumas, sumažėtų nuostoliai dėl gyvulių gaišimo, svorio netekimo susirgus. Projekto metu 6 Partnerių pieno ūkiuose įgyvendinus kompleksines antibiotikų mažinimo ir kryptingo, racionalaus antibiotikų naudojimo priemones sumažės patogeninių mikroorganizmų rezistentiškumas antibiotikams, infekciniai susirgimai bus lengviau pagydomi, bus sunaudojama mažiau medikamentų vieno gyvulio gydymui. Dėl gyvulių sveikatingumo pagerėjimo, optimizavus gyvūnų gerovę, pagerės gaminamos produkcijos kokybė, padidės gaunamos pajamos už realizuotą produkciją, sumažės išlaidos gydymui, sumažės ir gaminamo pieno savikaina. Projekto metu išbandytą ir pritaikytą įvairaus dydžio pieno ūkiams kompleksinį kryptingo ir racionalaus antibiotikų naudojimo modelį galima bus įgyvendinti Lietuvos pieno ūkiuose, o patį modelį, kaip pavyzdį, galima bus pritaikyti ir kituose gyvulininkystės sektoriuose. Projekto pabaigoje bus parengtos rekomendacijos pieno ūkių savininkams dėl kryptingo ir racionalaus antibiotikų naudojimo, bei antimikrobinėmis savybėmis pasižyminčių biopreparatų ir fitopreparatų kompozicijų pritaikomumo pieno ūkyje, siekiant stiprinti gyvulių imunitetą, pagerinti sveikatingumą.
