Context
The pilot project adds value to the cultivation of spirulina microalgae to obtain a new product and place it in the market chain: fresh spirulina.
Objectives
The objectives to be fulfilled in the project are as follows:
- Increase the shelf life of the product prior to consumption (which is only 2-3 days under refrigerated conditions using current methods).
- Guarantee the product's toxicological safety for the end consumer (without being able to use classic disinfectants, as these would kill the spirulina).
- Create a distribution system that means that the product can be distributed directly to the end consumer.
- Increase the profitability of spirulina production farms.
Objectives
Los objetivos a cumplir en el desarrollo del proyecto son:
- Incrementar la vida útil del producto antes de ser consumido (con los métodos actuales sólo tiene una duración de 2-3 días refrigerada).
- Garantizar la seguridad toxicológica del producto para el consumidor final (sin poder utilizar los desinfectantes clásicos, ya que acabarían con la vida de la espirulina).
- Crear un sistema de distribución que permita poner el producto directamente al alcance del consumidor final.
- Aumentar la rentabilidad de las granjas de producción de espirulina.
Activities
The following actions are planned to fulfil these objectives:
- Define a biomass extraction method that does not damage the culture cells.
- Define a method to detect organisms that may be toxic for human consumption.
- Define a disinfection method for spirulina cultures that does not damage their filaments.
- Define a method for sale to the end consumer.
- Define a strategy to valorise the product in the market.
Activities
Con el fin de cumplir los objetivos, está previsto desarrollar las siguientes acciones:
- Definir un método de extracción de la biomasa que no dañe las células de cultivo.
- Definir un método para detectar la presencia de organismos que puedan ser tóxicos para el consumo humano.
- Definir un método de desinfección que no dañe los filamentos de espirulina.
- Definir un método para introducir la espirulina en la cadena de mercado.
- Definir una estrategia para valorizar el producto en el mercado.
