Objectives
In Burgundy, the blackcurrant variety “Noir de Bourgogne” is known for its organoleptic qualities to make the “Crème de Cassis” liquor. It has heterogeneous yields because of its low fertility and sensitivity to biotic and abiotic stresses (April frosts). Climate change and the increasing of scale populations are problematic. The interprofessional association” Les Acteurs du Cassis” is surrounded by several technical and scientific partners. Agroecological and sanitary protection actions will help to stabilize yields quickly. In the long term, breeding of new varieties is identified as a promising solution.
Activities
We want to test a new model of growing management (agroecological infrastructures, hot water treatment of plants, reduced fertilization and health treatments), to restore effective wild pollinators populations (identification and implementation of a favorable environment of their reintroduction), to follow scale populations and develop means for biological control, clean up black currant orchards by regenerating mother plants by meristem culture and finally, start a breeding program and develop diseases tests and organoleptic qualities tests.
