‘In the Footsteps of Maginhrad’

    Summary

    The Slovakian village of Nizny Skalnik  is located in a region with a rich history as well as many cultural and natural attractions, which are largely unknown to visitors.   The project sought to attract more tourists  to the area and connect locals with the region’s past. The town of Nizny Skalnik used the EAFRD support to design and develop an educational trail connecting several villages, with information on the area’s history, inhabitants and culture. Local artisanal craftsman created sculptures for the walk.

    Results

    More visitors came to the area and the trail quickly became popular with local inhabitants.

    The project revived interest in the site of the former Maginhrad castle, raising awareness of its historical importance.

    The trail encouraged locals to find out more about the area’s history as well its natural  attractions.
