The “Masterclass on Rural Innovation” will bring together stakeholders from policy, research and practice to exchange knowledge and experiences on rural innovation.
The “Masterclass on Rural Innovation” will bring together stakeholders from policy, research and practice to exchange knowledge and experiences on rural innovation, linking local challenges with place-based solutions developed across Europe. There will be three Masterclasses across Europe and The James Hutton Institute is organising the only one that will be in the UK.
The RURACTIVE Masterclass at Hutton will focus on innovation in sustainable agri-food and ecosystem management and in energy transition and climate neutrality in rural development. The talks and panels will also delve into the cross-cutting priorities such as protection of biodiversity, climate change mitigation and adaption and social justice and inclusion. Linking local challenges with place-based solutions developed across Europe.
Sessions will include presentations by subject experts, discussions and examples from the RURACTIVE Solutions Catalogue, fostering a deep understanding of how innovations respond to the Drivers in practice. Participants will also have opportunities to showcase examples of rural innovation relevant to the themes of the Masterclass and feed into the discussions. Participants will receive a certificate of participation.
The RURACTIVE Masterclass will take place at The James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen on 8-9 June 2026 with a potential peer-to-peer exchange to visit some initiatives in the North-East Scotland along with RURACTIVE partners that is being organised by our partners GrowBiz Scotland (details of the field visits will be available soon).
