Use of composts made of biowaste and treated compost in organic potato production
Einsatz von Komposten aus der getrennten Sammlung sowie von weiterbehandeltem Kompost im ökologischen Kartoffelanbau
Objectives
The intention is to develop application-suggestions for the use of composts in organic potato-production. Bio-waste-composts should be established as a regular fertilizer in organic farming. Within this project a network of composting plants should be organized, which can deliver high quality composts, that are compliant to the guidelines of organic farming. The project partners bring in their experience and their knowledge about composts and organic farming. On four involved farms, there will be conducted compost experiments in three successive years. The experiments should demonstrate the influence of the compost application on the field and on the quality of the potatoes.
Objectives
Ziel ist, Anwendungsempfehlungen für den Einsatz verschiedener Komposte im ökolog. Kartoffelanbau zu entwickeln. Biogutkomposte sollen künftig als Standarddüngemittel etabliert werden. Ein Netzwerk von Kompostanlagen soll ökologisch wirtschaftende Betriebe mit qualitativ hochwertigen, richtlinienkonformen Komposten beliefern können. Auf Öko-Betrieben werden in drei aufeinander folgenden Jahren Versuche mit verschiedenen Kompostvarianten angelegt. Sie sollen aufzeigen, wie sich die Kompostapplikation auf Ertrag und Qualitaet der Kartoffeln auswirkt. Es soll ein besseres Verstaendnis fuer die Kompostwirkung auf Boden und Pflanze geschaffen werden

1 Practice Abstracts
The Project “Use of composts made of biowaste and treated compost in organic potato production” takes place in the EIP-program with the intention to develop application-suggestions for the use of composts in organic potato-production. In three successive years the operational group carried out field trials on four organic farms in Lower Saxony. They put up to four different composts in potatoes and compared the yields. The results showed, that the use of compost, no matter which kind, can be worth in organic potato growing, especially sandy soils. Even in the following crop, fava beans, the compost-effects appeared in higher yields. The operational group showed, that there are high-quality composts available on the market, that can be used in organic farming. Many informations on compost-application were brought together by the operational group. Theses Informations and the results of the field trials were presented in annual workshops. At the end of the project a booklet with all the information was created. Besides this the campaign “Biotonne richtig füttern” was developed to enlighten consumers about biowaste. Das Projekt „Einsatz von Komposten aus der getrennten Sammlung sowie von weiterbehandeltem Kompost im ökologischen Kartoffelbau“ hatte zum Ziel, Anwendungsempfehlungen für den Einsatz verschiedener Komposte im ökologischen Kartoffelanbau zu entwickeln. In drei aufeinander folgenden Jahren wurden auf vier verschiedenen Standorten in Niedersachsen Feldversuche durchgeführt. Hierbei wurden vier Komposttypen im ökologischen Kartoffelanbau eingesetzt und unter anderem der Ertrag verglichen. Die Versuche haben gezeigt, dass sich der Komposteinsatz im Ökolandbau, vor allem auf leichteren Böden, lohnen kann. Die Kompostart ist dabei nicht unbedingt entscheidend. Auch in der Folgekultur, Ackerbohnen, konnten noch deutliche Effekte auf den Ertrag nachgewiesen werden. Die operationelle Gruppe konnte zeigen, dass es qualitativ hochwertige Komposte am Markt gibt, die im Ökolandbau eingesetzt werden können. Viele Informationen zum Komposteinsatz wurden von der Gruppe zusammen getragen und mit den Versuchsergebnissen auf jährlichen Workshops präsentiert. Am Ende des Projektes wurde ein Leitfaden zum Komposteinsatz erstellt. Zudem wurde die Kampagne „Biotonne richtig füttern“ zur Verbraucheraufklärung entwickelt und auf Veranstaltungen präsentiert.
