TRADITIONAL ROMANIAN APPLE IN ECOLOGICAL SISTEM IN THE PRESENT: PRESERVING GENETIC RESOURCES AND ECONOMICAL DEVELOPMENT ON LONG TERM

Objectives
The main objective of the project is to develop an integrated system that supports the farmer in all steps from preserving the genetic resources of traditional apple varieties, to long-term economically development of traditional orchards and production of apple processed products in ecologic system. This objective will be achived by development of new tehniques and processes for the maintanance of traditional orchards, by implementation of transponder technology that will led to creation of a dinamic database and by development of new processed eco products derived from traditional apples.
Objectives
Obiectivul principal al proiectului este crearea unui sistem integrat care sustine fermierul raman in toti pasii, de la pastrarea patrimoniului genetic a soiurilor de mar traditionale, la dezvoltarea economica pe termen lung in sistem ecologic a acestora si a produselor derivate din acestea. Pentru aceasta se vor dezvolta: noi tehnici si procese pentru eficientizarea livezilor in sistem ecologic, implementarea tehnologiei transponderilor care vor conduce la crearea unei baze de date accesibila din cloud si dezvoltarea de noi produse ecologice finite din mere traditionale.

Identifying apples from traditional old varieties, chipping and creating a dynamic database. Phenotyping, genotyping, maintenance activities for apple varieties from GO. Development of ecological maintenance protocols for old apples. Creating experimental lots and applying apple grafting techniques. Creating the collection of traditional old apple varieties. Development of HACCP plan dedicated to organic apples processed by dehydration. Identificarea merilor din soiuri vechi traditionale, ciparea si crearea bazei de date dinamice. Activitati de fenotipare, genotipare, intretinere la soiurile de mar din GO. Elaborare protocoale de intretinere ecologica a merilor vechi. Creare loturi experimentale si aplicarea tehnicilor altoirii la mar. Crearea colectiei de soiuri de mar vechi traditionale. Elaborare plan HACCP dedicat la merele ecologice procesate prin deshidratare. Obtinerea de produse deshidratate cu valorificarea calitatilor olfactive si organoleptice ale merelor corespunzatoare soiurilor din care provin. Alegerea unui ambalaj potrivit si crearea unei etichete care vinde. Identificarea pietei de desfacere.

Estimated results: (20) The dissemination activities of the results foreseen to take place in the project, including the final dissemination event, will involve local / regional factors / farmers interested in the revitalization and ecological exploitation of traditional orchards, potential consumers. We hope that our project will become an example of success that will lead other farmers to revitalize and exploit their traditional orchards in an ecological way, and that the tasters of our products will become potential consumers and clients.

Speram ca proiectul nostru sa se constituie intr-un exemplu de reusita care sa determine si alti fermieri sa-si revitalizeze si sa-si exploateze livezile traditionale in mod ecologic, iar degustatorii produselor noastre sa devina potentiali consumatori si clienti.
Estimated results: (19) Partial dissemination activities of the results RESULTS: 0-March 2022 following the participation with initial samples of obtained products, at fairs and events in Cluj Napoca, Craiova, tastings were organized and the general objective of the project was promoted ; the interest for the project's objective from the young and middle-aged population category was found. Those interested in the horticultural side have registered as members in our group formed on a social networking site. September 7-9, 2022, the project was presented at the RNDR Ploiesti event; the summary of the presentation was uploaded on the RNDR website. December 30-01, 2022, the theme of the project was presented during the registration for participation in the EIP AGRI Ireland Dublin workshop. December 9-11, 2022, tastings of apples from old traditional Romanian varieties were organized in Bucharest TIMM 2022, where the interest of consumers in the Bucharest area was tested. In the months of June, July, August, September 2023, product tastings were organized, questionnaires were completed on a sample of over 500 people at national level in different regions of the country. August - September 2023 - collaboration with ICDP Pitesti Maracineni - twigs were sent for multiplying varieties. Rezultate estimate: (19) Activitatile de diseminare partiala a rezultatelor REZULTATE: 0-martie 2022 in urma participarii cu mostre initiale de produse obtinute, la targuri si evenimente in Cluj Napoca, Craiova, s-au organizat degustari si s-a promovat obiectivul general al proiectului; s-a constatat interesul pentru obiectivul proiectului din partea categoriei de populatie cu varsta tanara si medie. Cei interesati de partea horticola s-au inscris ca membri in grupul nostru format pe un site de socializare. 7-9 septembrie 2022 proiectul a fost prezentat in cadrul evenimentului RNDR Ploiesti; rezumatul prezentarii a fost incarcat pe site-ul RNDR. 30-01 decembrie 2022 s-a prezentat tematica proiectului in cadrul inscrierii pentru participarea la workshop EIP AGRI Irlanda Dublin. 9-11 decembrie 2022 s-au organizat degustari de mere din soiuri vechi traditionale romanesti la Bucuresti TIMM 2022, unde s-a testat interesul consumatorilor din zona Bucuresti. The estimated results regarding the market for the products will be: (17) Participation in the fairs will allow the promotion of the finished products obtained within the project through the dehydration of traditional Romanian ecological apples. Product tastings will be organized, thus the possible niche of customers will become familiar with the tastes of apples from the time of their grandparents. (18) Receiving feed-back from potential consumers, as well as identifying potential markets for these innovative products with high added value. RESULTS: Dried apple products from old traditional Romanian varieties are currently being prepared, packaged in the final form, which are tested on a sample of between 500 - over 1000 people (the right packaging model chosen, the label model - with all the mandatory and recommended details: product content, references to organic farming, shelf life, nutritional information, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, consumption suggestion, storage conditions, etc.). Rezultatele estimate in ceea ce priveste piata de desfacere a produselor vor fi: (17) Participarea la targuri va permite promovarea produselor finite obtinute in cadrul proiectului prin deshidratarea merelor traditionale ecologice romanesti. Se vor organiza degustari de produse, astfel posibila nisa de clienti se va familiariza cu gusturile merelor de pe vremea bunicilor.(18) Primirea feed-back-ului de la potentialii consumatori, precum si identificarea unor potentiale piete de desfacere pentru aceste produse inovative cu inalta valoare adaugata.
REZULTATE: In prezent se pregatesc produsele mere uscate din soiuri vechi traditionale romanesti ambalate in forma finala, care sunt testate pe un esantion intre 500 - peste 1000 de persoane (modelul potrivit de ambalaj ales, modelul de eticheta- cu toate detaliile obligatorii si recomandate: continut produs,referinte la agricultura ecologica,termen de valabilitate informatii nutritionale,vitamine,minerale,antioxidanti,sugestie de consum,conditii de pastrare, etc). The estimated results regarding the fruit processing research will be: (16) A HACCP system specialized for the processing by dehydration of organic apples will be drawn up. (It will be available at the end of the project on the project website for all those interested)
RESULTS: September 2022, the first version of the HACCP plan was completed. It was concluded that in the absence of the application of an appropriate maintenance protocol on the trees, the fruits of the trees, respectively apples from traditional Romanian apple varieties cannot be used in drying processing. The stages on the technological flow: Reception of raw material, Washing-Cleaning of raw material, Storage of dry product, constitute PCC (critical control points). The use of fruits that are not free of pests is not safe in the drying process, because it has been found that the traces of pests cannot be completely removed from the spine of the fruits. Rezultatele estimate in ceea ce priveste cercetarea procesarii fructelor vor fi: (16) Va fi intocmit un sistem HACCP specializat procesarii prin deshidratare a merelor ecologice. (Va fi disponibil la finalul proiectului pe site-ul proiectului pentru toti cei interesati)
REZULTATE: Septembrie 2022 s-a finalizat prima varianta de plan HACCP. S-a concluzionat ca in lipsa aplicarii asupra pomilor a unui protocol de intretinere adecvat, roadele pomilor, respectiv merele din soiuri de mar traditionale romanesti nu pot fi utilizate in procesarea prin uscare. Etapele de pe fluxul tehnologic: Receptie materie prima, Spalare-Curatare materie prima, Depozitare produs uscat, constituie PCC ( puncte critice de control). Utilizarea unor fructe care nu sunt libere de daunatori, nu este sigura in procesul de uscare, deoarece s-a constatat ca nu se pot elimina total urmele de daunatori din cotorul fructelor. The estimated results regarding the fruit processing research will be: (13) Following the harvesting of the fruits from the samples of apples from old Romanian traditional varieties, for processing, a diversity of processed products will be obtained, respectively dehydrated products differentiated by varieties in depending on their availability (chips, teas, snacks, etc.) and depending on the characteristics of the fruit (taste, smell, aroma, water content). A questionnaire will be drawn up to identify the products desired by the consumer. RESULTS: Dehydrated products from the varieties POINIC, MUSTOS, SUMMER, WINTER, IONATHAN, DULCE, MIX OF APPLES, MIX of apples with other fruits were obtained. The products were used in the tasting activity in the various events that were attended. A part of the products was used to test the HACCP plan created, and a part was sent to laboratory analyzes to find out the nutritional information and the minerals contained. Rezultatele estimate in ceea ce priveste cercetarea procesarii fructelor vor fi: (13) In urma recoltarii fructelor de pe exemplare de meri din soiuri vechi traditionale romanesti, in vederea procesarii, se va obtine o diversitate de produse procesate, respectiv produse deshidratate diferentiate pe soiuri in functie de pretabilitatea acestora (chipsuri, ceaiuri, snackuri, etc) si in functie de caracteristicile fructului (gust, miros, aroma, continut de apa). Se va intocmi un chestionar pentru identificarea produselor dorite de consumator.
REZULTATE: S-au obtinut produse deshidratate din soiurile POINIC, MUSTOS, DE VARA, DE IARNA, IONATHAN, DULCE, MIX de MERE, MIX mere cu alte fructe. Produsele au fost folosite la activitatea de degustare in cadrul diferitelor evenimente la care s-a participat. O parte din produse s-a folosit la testarea planului HACCP creat, iar o parte au fost trimise la analize de laborator pentru aflarea informatiilor nutritionale si mineralelor continute. Estimated results regarding the perpetuation of old traditional Romanian apple varieties. (11) Planting material will be obtained from all the identified apple varieties that will constitute a genetic base for those interested in establishing or expanding traditional orchards. (12) Reproduction techniques that are almost forgotten and not currently practiced by young farmers will be revitalized (the techniques of grafting) - theoretical and practical courses.
RESULTS: The theoretical seminar with the presentation of grafting techniques was held for GO members and other interested persons. During the practical training seminar for GO farmers, in August (16) the method of grafting in sleeping eyes was presented, and grafting was done on the experimental lot from CCB Jibou. Rezultatele estimate in ceea ce priveste perpetuarea soiurilor de mar vechi traditionale romanesti. (11) Se va obtine material saditor din toate soiurile de mar identificate care va constitui o baza genetica pentru cei interesati de infiintarea sau extinderea livezilor traditionale.(12) Se vor revitaliza tehnici de inmultire aproape uitate si nepracticate in prezent de fermierii tineri (tehnicile de altoire) - cursuri teoretice si practice.

În cadrul seminarului de instruire practică a fermierilor GO, in luna august (16) s-a prezentat metoda de altoire în ochi dormind, si s-au facut altoiri pe lotul experimental de la CCB Jibou. La aceste activități au participat toți membri proiectului.

Estimated results regarding the perpetuation of old traditional Romanian apple varieties. (10) The GO partners will establish and keep under comparative observation 3 experimental lots identical in number of specimens and comprising grafted trees of all the varieties identified in the project through the 2 grafting techniques presented at the seminars, in order to save the traditional apple varieties threatened with extinction and for the purpose of creating the Complex Collection of traditional Romanian old apple varieties from Salaj county. Rezultatele estimate privind revigorarea livezilor fermierilor GO, luate in studiu: (9) Cercetatorii / specialistii horticoli vor intretine livezile fermierilor parteneri pe toata durata proiectului, aplicand toate protocoalele care se creaza. Se estimeaza la finalul implementarii proiectului, o revigorare a pomilor, pomii si fructele vor fi mai sanatoase si productia va creste semnificativ. The expected results from the point of view of the implementation of the ecological system will be: (8) A database of the ecological inputs available on the Romanian market will be drawn up, with information about the suppliers of ecological inputs, contact details, procedures of use of inputs, availability of inputs, phases of use/proper moments for use of inputs - graph of use, prices of inputs. The updated documentation will be available on the project website for all interested parties.
RESULTS: A documentation is being developed with fertilizers, insecticides and fungicides that can be used in organic fruit growing; it contains, in addition to the name and certification, the doses used for treatments, the phases of application.

Rezultatele asteptate din punct de vedere al implementarii sistemului ecologic vor fi: (8) Va fi intocmita o baza de date a input-urilor ecologice disponibile pe piata din Romania, cu informatii despre furnizorii de input-uri ecologice, date de contact, proceduri de utilizare input-uri, pretabilitate input-uri, fazele de utilizare/momentele propice pentru utilizare input-uri - grafic de utilizare, preturi input-uri. Documentatia actualizata va fi disponibila pe site-ul proiectului pentru toti factorii interesati.
REZULTATE: Se elaboreaza o documentatie cu fertilizanti, insecticide si fungicide care pot fi utilizate in pomicultura ecologica; acesta contine, pe langa denumire si certificare, dozele care se utilizeaza la tratamente, fenofazele de aplicare.

The expected results from the point of view of the implementation of the ecological system will be: (6) Complex protocols for the maintenance of apples from old traditional Romanian varieties will be created in the ecological system; The protocols will be tested in parallel on apple specimens from GO farmers' gardens. After the comparative testing, it will be determined which of the protocols are effective and which help to increase the production of the trees of the GO farmers. Rezultatele asteptate din punct de vedere al implementarii sistemului ecologic vor fi: (6) Vor fi create protocoale complexe de intretinere in sistem ecologic a merilor din soiuri vechi traditionale romanesti; Protocoalele vor fi testate in paralel pe exemplarele de meri din gradinile fermierilor GO. (6.1) In urma testarii comparative se va constata care dintre protocoale sunt eficiente si care ajuta la cresterea productiei pomilor fermierilor GO. Se va compara productia initiala a pomilor pentru fiecare soi cu productia pomilor dupa aplicarea protocoalelor de intretinere create. (7) Fermierii vor putea acumula cunostinte privind perpetuarea livezilor si vor putea implementa pe termen lung protocoale de intretinere dedicate disponibile si actualizate constant pe site-ul proiectului.

The expected results in the scientific context will be: (4) Phenotyping and genotyping activities in the laboratory, after which scientific documentation will be made available to those interested; (5) All identified apple specimens will be characterized on scientific grounds and will bear the name of the correct single variety. Thus, the identified specimens that are currently nominally unidentified will be identified. The documentation regarding the identification of varieties and their characteristics will also help other interested parties to make their own identifications of varieties if needed. The course of activities and the results will be available on the project website during the implementation of the project. RESULTS:
A method is used that allows the precise identification of genetic differences between varieties and the development of a genetic profile with an accuracy of almost 100%. The method requires isolation of high purity genetic material. Optimization studies of the existing protocols were carried out, in order to correspond with the quality requirements of the work method. A number of 90 samples were taken from the trees studied. DNA isolation was carried out, in order to sequence these samples.

Rezultatele asteptate in contextul stiintific vor fi: (4) Activitati de fenotipare si genotipare in laborator in urma carora se va pune la dispozitie celor interesati o documentatie stiintifica; (5) Toate exemplarele de meri identificate vor fi caracterizate pe baze stiintifice si vor purta denumirea de soi unitara corecta. Astfel exemplarele identificate care in prezent sunt neidentificate nominal, vor fi identificare. Documentatia privind identificarea soiurilor si caracteristicile acestora vor ajuta si alti factori interesati sa faca propriile identificari de soiuri la nevoie. Parcursul activitatilor si rezultatele vor fi disponibile pe site-ul proiectului pe parcursul implementarii proiectului.
REZULTATE: Se foloseste o metoda care permite identificarea cu precizie, a diferentelor genetice dintre soiuri si elaborarea unui profil genetic cu o acuratete de aproape 100%. Metoda necesita izolare de material genetic de inalta puritate. S-au efectuat studii de optimizare a protocoalelor existente, pentru a corespunde cu cerintele de calitate a metodei de lucru. Au fost prelevate, din pomii luati in studiu, un numar de 90 probe. The expected results in the context of precision horticulture will be: (3) The specimens of chipped apple trees will be monitored, and all the data obtained will be constituted in a dynamic database accessible from the Cloud, as a complex documentation that will contain the location of the trees, data specifics such as condition, age, typology, appearance, way of maintenance, and other data that will be useful to farmers and other factors interested in the establishment and maintenance in an ecological system of apple orchards of old traditional Romanian varieties.

Rezultatele asteptate in contextul Horticulturii de precizie vor fi: (3) Exemplarele de meri cipate vor fi monitorizate, iar toate datele obtinute se vor constitui intr-o baza de date dinamica accesibila din Cloud, ca o documentatie complexa care va contine localizarea pomilor, date specifice precum stare, varsta, tipologie, aspect, mod de intretinere, si alte date care vor fi de folos fermierilor si altor factori interesati de infiintarea si intretinerea in sistem ecologic a livezilor de mar din soiuri vechi traditionale romanesti.

The expected results in the context of precision horticulture will be: (1) GPS will be identified on the territory of Salaj county, specimens of apples from old traditional Romanian varieties. The list/map will be available on the project website to interested parties. (2) A number of approximately 320 specimens of apples from old traditional Romanian varieties will be chipped / marked with transponder-type devices, including the specimens that will be multiplied in the experimental batches.
RESULTS:
30 01 2023 - The map with identified apple trees is loaded on the website - 200 transposed trees, in 8 HNV communes of Salaj county: Almas, Balan, Cizer, Creaca, Cuzaplac, Garbou, Zalha.

Rezultatele asteptate in contextul Horticulturii de precizie vor fi: (1) Se vor identifica GPS pe teritoriul judetului Salaj exemplare de meri din soiuri vechi traditionale romanesti. Lista/harta va fi disponibila pe site-ul proiectului, factorilor interesati. (2) Un numar de aproximativ 320 de exemplare de meri din soiuri vechi traditionale romanesti vor fi cipate / marcate cu dispozitive de tip transponder, inclusiv exemplarele care vor fi inmultite in loturile experimentale.
REZULTATE:
30 01 2023 - Este incarcata pe site harta cu merii identificati; 200 pomi transpondati, in 8 comune HNV ale judetului Salaj: Almas, Balan, Cizer, Creaca, Cuzaplac, Garbou, Zalha.
