Objectives
● Reduction of the use of antibiotics and chemical decontamination and cleaning agents in pig houses.

1 Practice Abstracts
1. One method to objectively determine whether animal welfare is improving is to perform slaughter-line research in houses where Microbalance has been applied (Case) and to compare these data with the results from comparable houses where the Anima Life Plus concept has not been applied (Control). . A slaughter line examination was carried out at the end of the measurement period of the animals in the stables that took part in the project. The investigation was carried out for both houses according to the case-control method. Lungs were examined. Both slaughter-line studies of the two houses show that there are statistically highly significant differences between the Case and the Control group. The Case group scored significantly better on the health aspects (60% less damage and abnormalities).
2. Calculations have shown that this improvement in animal health results in savings that can amount to more than €2.50/fattening pig.
3. Amount of ammonia and particulate matter in the barn: The measurements were performed by Envivice Luchtadvies. It has been reported by the employees that they much prefer to work in the departments where the Anima Life Plus concept is applied than in the traditional control departments because of. better stable climate. The animals in the daily cleaned stables also cough significantly less. The actual ammonia emissions in the barns where Microbalance was applied were 25% to 50% lower than those of control barns. These results were obtained with 6 and 9 sprays per day, respectively.
- Een methode om objectief vast te stellen of het dierenwelzijn verbetert, is het uitvoeren van slachtlijnonderzoek bij stallen waar Microbalans is toegepast (Case) en die gegevens te vergelijken met de resultaten afkomstig van vergelijkbare stallen waar het Anima Life Plus concept niet is toegepast (Control). Van de dieren van de stallen die in het project hebben deelgenomen is een slachtlijnonderzoek uitgevoerd aan het einde van de meetperiode. Voor beide stallen is het onderzoek volgens de case – control methode uitgevoerd. Hierbij zijn longen onderzocht. Uit beide slachtlijnonderzoeken van de twee stallen blijkt dat er statistisch hoog significante verschillen zijn tussen de Case en de Control groep. De Case groep scoorde beduidend beter op de gezondheidsaspecten (60% minder aantasting en afwijkingen).
- Berekeningen hebben aangetoond dat deze verbetering van diergezondheid een besparing oplevert die kan oplopen tot meer dan €2,50/vleesvarken.
- Hoeveelheid ammoniak en fijnstof in de stal: De metingen zijn verricht door Envivice Luchtadvies. Door de medewerkers is gemeld dat ze veel liever in de afdelingen werken waar het Anima Life Plus concept is toegepast dan in de traditionele controle afdelingen i.v.m. beter stalklimaat. Ook hoesten de dieren in de dagelijks gereinigde stallen duidelijk minder. De werkelijke uitstoot aan ammoniak in de stallen waar Microbalans is toegepast was 25% tot 50% lager dan die van controle stallen. Deze resultaten zijn behaald bij, respectievelijk, 6 keer en 9 keer sproeien per dag.
