The project will develop methods for the use of drones for automatic identification of weeds, especially common wild oat, from cereal fields. Additionally, methods for the use of drone imaging for identification of specific stress symptoms in cultivated cereals will be developed. Drone service companies and farmers will be the end-users of the results. Drone service companies will be able to use the know-how published by the project and implement the methods to be developed in the project, to offer services for farmers. Farmers will be able to buy a cost-efficient service to get valuable information about the state of the cultivated plants and about weeds in the field. In Finland, common wild oat is expanding its area. The project develops methods that hopefully lead to identification of common wild oat already when the cereals are young. We also develop methods to identify common wild oat at the time when it is manually weeded from fields (note that according to Finnish legislation, the presence of an individual of common wild oat has to be removed and the field must be officially registered as a field containing this weed).
