The project has achieved the development of a regional network of computerized apiaries, equipped with sensors for the collection of data (weight, temperature, internal humidity) from hives and their surrounding environment. This information is available on a specific platform where it is integrated with historical and real-time meteorological data, land-use data and data on the phenology of melliferous plants. Remote monitoring allows beekeepers to improve hive management by keeping track of the development and health conditions of bee colonies with the further integration of data concerning environmental and weather conditions and other data.

The following activities have been carried out:

- Development and adaptation of hive sensors for the monitoring network

- Development and adaptation of the software platform for the acquisition, visualization and processing of data for the DSS

- Setting up and conduction of computerized apiaries in the bee farms which are part of the monitoring network. Some of the apiaries have served an educational and instructional purpose

- Regional weather, climate and territorial analysis for the purposes of the DSS for nomadic beekeeping, with an in-depth forecast evaluation of melliferous plant phenological development

- Weather and climate analysis in relation to bee activity

- Collection of hive samples to monitor the environment surrounding the apiaries in the monitoring network and to detect the presence of potential pollutants

- Field trials with mixtures of flowering plants which are beneficial for bees conducted for the validation of phenological forecast models

- Promotion and training specifically focusing on the utility of the sensors developed in the project for nomadic beekeeping.

- Sviluppo e adattamento della sensoristica destinata agli apiari del network di monitoraggio;

- Sviluppo e adattamento della piattaforma software di acquisizione, elaborazione e visualizzazione dati per il DSS;

- Allestimento e conduzione degli apiari monitorati presso le aziende apistiche del network. Alcune sono state impiegate anche a scopo didattico e dimostrativo;

- Analisi della situazione meteo-climatica e territoriale regionale ai fini del DSS per l’attività apistica nomade, con approfondimento di valutazioni previsionali sullo sviluppo fenologico delle principali specie nettarifere;

- Analisi meteo-climatica in relazione all’attività delle api;

- Prelievo di campioni di matrici dell’alveare per monitorare la situazione ambientale circostante gli apiari della rete di monitoraggio;

- Realizzazione di campi prova utili alla validazione di modelli di previsione fenologica coltivati con miscugli di specie erbacee di interesse;

- Attività di divulgazione e formazione con specifico riferimento all’utilizzo nell’azienda apistica nomade della sensoristica utilizzata nel progetto.
