Objectives

Realizing a new system for seed potato production from seed. The diploid hybrid potato from seed is a new development in the potato market that has major consequences for the production of the starting material.

Komen tot een nieuw systeem voor pootaardappelproductie uit zaad. De diploïde hybride aardappel uit zaad is een nieuwe ontwikkeling in de aardappelmarkt die grote gevolgen heeft voor de productie van het uitgangsmateriaal.

Activities

Potato seeds can not be sown directly, but should first be cultivated into small plants.
The project therefore looks for the right planting distances, optimal fertilization and other cultivation technical measures. We also examine the best storage strategy for seed potatoes developed from seed.

Aardappelzaad kan niet direct worden gezaaid maar dient eerst tot plantjes te worden opgekweekt.
In het project wordt daarom gezocht naar de juiste plantafstanden, optimale bemesting en andere teelttechnische maatregelen. Ook wordt onderzocht wat de beste bewaarstrategie is voor pootaardappelen ontwikkeld uit zaad.

Contexte

In het huidige pootaardappelsysteem wordt in een periode van 6 tot 8 jaar vanuit een kleine hoeveelheid miniknollen een vermarktbare hoeveelheid gebruikspootgoed geproduceerd. Het duurt (te) lang om nieuwe rassen te introduceren die o.a. met minder bemesting en gewasbeschermingsmiddelen kunnen worden geteeld.
