Tämän hankkeen tarkoituksena on kehittää uusi alaraajoja avustava eksoskeleton vaativissa maasto-olosuhteisessa tehtävään raivaussahaukseen ja taimien istutuksiin. Tavoitteena on suunnitella ja rakentaa prototyyppi, jonka avulla taimikoiden hoitoa voidaan tehdä kevyemmin ja tuottavammin. Tavoitteena on hyödyntää jo olemassa olevaa sekä aktiivista että passiivista eksoskeleton- teknologiaa. Tässä hankkeessa tehdään yhteistyötä Häämeen ammatti-instituutin, Metsäteho Oy:n ja metsäpalveluyritysten kanssa. Lisäksi hankkeessa hyödynnetään kansainvälisten tutkimuslaitosten, SDU yliopiston ja Boråsin yliopisto sekä hollantilaisen teknologiayrityksen InteSpring B.V:n osaamista. Kehitettävän laitteen mahdollisia käyttäjäryhmiä ovat kokeneiden metsureiden lisäksi metsäalalle juuri tulleet nuoret, naiset ja ikääntyneet työntekijät. Kehitettävä laite vähentävää työkuormitusta, lisää tuottavuutta, parantaa metsäalan vetovoimaa erityisesti nuorten keskuudessa sekä luo taimikon hoitoon uusia työnteon malleja.

Developing an exoskeleton for supporting lower limb in brush cutting (clearing)

The importance of the forest industry to the Finnish economy is significant. Improving productivity is one of the most important aspects for the national economy, which also applies to forestry. Productivity in forestry work has been improved in mechanized logging, but there is also a need to improve productivity in manual tasks. One option for improving productivity in manual forestry work is to innovate a targeted exoskeleton. In our previous development projects, we found that a lower limb support exoskeleton is needed for cutting the workload and increasing productivity in forestry. The purpose of this project is to develop a new exoskeleton to assist lower limbs in brush cutting and tree planting. The aim is to design and build a prototype that will enable lighter and more productive forestry maintenance work. This project involves collaboration with Häme Vocational Institute, Metsäteho Ltd., and forestry entrepreneurs. In addition, the expertise of international research institutions will be utilized in the project. Potential user groups for the developed device include experienced loggers as well as young, female, and elderly workers who are new to the forestry industry. The developed device will reduce workload, increase productivity, enhance attractiveness to the forestry sector especially among young people, and create new work models for forestry maintenance.
