Konzept zur Optimierung des Populationsmanagements beim Rheinisch-Deutschen Kaltblut (PSSM1)
Objectives
Polysaccharide storage myopathy type 1 (PSSM1) is a genetic disease that can lead to impaired skeletal muscle metabolism in affected horses. The aim is to investigate the carrier frequency of the gene mutation causal for PSSM1 in the Rhenish-German Coldblood in Saxony, which is classified as endangered, and to analyze the effects on performance parameters and health of the horses. In order to make a well-founded recommendation on the breeding use of carrier animals and to enable breeders to make optimized mating decisions, the active breeding population will be comprehensively genotyped.

Die Polysaccharide Speichermyopathie Typ 1 (PSSM1) ist eine genetisch bedingte Krankheit, die zu einem gestörten Stoffwechsel der Skelettmuskulatur bei den betroffenen Pferden führen kann. Ziel ist die Untersuchung der Trägerfrequenz der für PSSM1 kausalen Genmutation bei dem, als gefährdet eingestuften, Rheinisch-Deutschen Kaltblut in Sachsen sowie eine Analyse der Effekte auf Leistungsparameter und Gesundheit der Pferde. Um eine fundierte Empfehlung zum Zuchteinsatz von Trägertieren zu treffen und Züchtern optimierte Anpaarungsentscheidungen zu ermöglichen, soll die aktive Zuchtpopulation umfassend genotypisiert werden.
Activities
Recommendations for population management will be established and a mating planner will be developed, which will take into account not only the parentage or relationship coefficient of the parent animals, but also the genotype (if necessary for the purpose of health / risk reduction).

Es sollen Empfehlungen zum Populationsmanagement aufgestellt und ein Anpaarungsplaner entwickelt werden, der neben der Abstammung bzw. dem Verwandtschaftskoeffizienten der Elterntiere auch den Genotyp (ggf. zwecks Gesundheit / Risikoreduktion) berücksichtigt.
