Objectives
Agriculture is a solution to fight against climate change because it can: Reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, Sequester atmospheric carbon, Substitute biobased products for products of fossil origin.
And yet, to date, the farmer has received little or no remuneration for these positive externalities.
Tomorrow, thanks to CarbonThink, the most efficient agricultural practices will be able to develop through the set of financial incentives, as society demands it and technology allows it.

L’agriculture est une solution pour lutter contre le changement climatique car elle peut : Réduire ses émissions de gaz à effet de serre, Séquestrer du carbone atmosphérique, Substituer aux produits d’origine fossile des produits biosourcées.
Et pourtant, l’agriculteur n’est à ce jour que peu ou pas rémunéré pour ces externalités positives.
Demain, grâce à CarbonThink, les pratiques agricoles les plus performantes vont pouvoir se développer par le jeu d’incitations financières, car la société le demande et la technologie le permet.
Activities
CarbonThink will produce:
- a methodology for evaluating the carbon performance of farms as part of national work around the Low Carbon Label;
- an economic model and a community of funders, both private and public, ready to support farmers' investment in the fight against climate change;
- a digital tool (via blockchain technology) to facilitate the certification and financing of low carbon practices on farms.
Activities
CarbonThink va produire :
- une méthodologie d’évaluation de la performance carbone des fermes dans le cadre des travaux nationaux autour du Label Bas Carbone ;
- un modèle économique et une communauté de financeurs, aussi bien privés que publics, prêts à soutenir l’investissement des agriculteurs dans la lutte contre le changement climatique ;
- un outil numérique (via la technologie blockchain) pour faciliter la certification et le financement des pratiques bas carbone dans les fermes.

1 Practice Abstracts
With CarbonThink, 100 farms will be able to demonstrate the following:
- To carry out a first carbon diagnosis allowing them to calculate their gross greenhouse gas emissions, their current capacity to store carbon in their soils and in the biomass produced to replace fossil carbon;
- To identify current and future good practices to achieve a high level of carbon performance, compared to a reference scenario (individual situation or regional average);
- To evaluate the technical gains (tonnes of CO2) and the associated economic costs (€);
- To obtain the commitments of public and private partners ready to finance their carbon performance;
- To test a digital tool to certify practices and engage funders.
CarbonThink aims to establish a proof of concept of the technical and economic feasibility of a new model for valuing the carbon externality.
The 100 engaged farms will be able to extend the financial year beyond CarbonThink by validating their Carbon action plan and concluding contracts with the funders involved.
Grâce à CarbonThink, 100 fermes pourront faire la démonstration suivante :
- Réaliser un diagnostic initial "Bilan Carbone" permettant de calculer leurs émissions brutes de gaz à effet de serre, leur capacité actuelle à stocker du carbone dans leurs sols et dans la biomasse produite se substituant à du carbone fossile ;
- Identifier les bonnes pratiques actuelles et futures permettant d'atteindre un haut niveau de performance Carbone, en comparaison à un scénario de référence (situation personnelle ou moyenne régionale) ;
- Evaluer les gains techniques (tonnes de CO2) et les coûts économiques (€) associés ;
- Obtenir les engagements de partenaires publics et privés prêts à financer leur performance Carbone ;
- Tester un outil numérique permettant de certifier les pratiques et d'engager les financeurs.
CarbonThink vise l’établissement d’une preuve de concept de la faisabilité technique et économique d'un nouveau modèle de valorisation de l’externalité carbone.
Les 100 fermes engagés pourront prolonger l'exercice au-delà de CarbonThink en validant leur plan d'action Carbone et contractualisant avec les financeurs mobilisés.
