Objectives

The key objective of the project is to use data to reflect the herd performance of a beef suckler herd enterprise back to the farm manager leading directly to changed practice resulting in efficiency gains. The project will drive informed management change by highlighting key performance areas, for example, calving interval.

Activities

The aim of this project is to increase the resilience and production efficiency of the Scottish herd by piloting the Livestock Performance Programme (LPP) with sixteen beef suckler herds. This pilot is innovative in that it will enable a Livestock Performance Statement (LPS) concept to be developed and tested by benchmarking production efficiency using underutilised industry owned data. The proposition will then be developed through farmer feedback to meet the long-term vision of a viable project fit for national roll out that works to ensure the cattle industry in Scotland is producing every kg of beef in the most efficient way possible.
