Objectives
Through innovation and knowledge development, make it possible to grow sweet potatoes throughout the Netherlands in a price-technically competitive and sustainable manner on both clay and sandy soils for the industry and the fresh market, thereby contributing to the competitive position of the sector. That is why this project places a strong emphasis on the business case and scaling up cultivation, which strengthens the grower's competitive position.
Objectives
Via innovatie- en kennisontwikkeling het mogelijk maken om op een prijstechnisch concurrerende én duurzame manier de zoete aardappel in heel Nederland te telen op zowel klei- als zandgronden voor de industrie én versmarkt en daarmee een bijdrage te leveren aan de concurrentiepositie van de sector. Vandaar dat binnen dit project een sterk nadruk ligt op de business case én het opschalen van de teelt, waardoor de concurrentiepositie van de teler versterkt wordt.
Activities
The sweet potato is a tropical crop that originally does not grow easily in the Netherlands. By making smart use of films, innovative cultivation techniques and extensive knowledge of breeding, we see that more was possible than was thought possible until a few years ago. Moreover, we have achieved various things in recent years with an active EIP group, which also makes it increasingly possible from a cost perspective. The developments of the existing EIP group started on the sandy soils in the eastern part of Brabant and are mainly aimed at the processing industry.
Activities
De zoete aardappel is een tropisch gewas wat oorspronkelijk niet gemakkelijk in Nederland groeit. Door slim gebruik te maken van folies, innovatieve teelttechnieken en vergaande kennis inzake veredeling zien we dat er meer mogelijk was dan tot enkele jaren geleden voor mogelijk werd gehouden. Bovendien hebben we met een actieve EIP-groep de afgelopen jaren verschillende zaken gerealiseerd, waardoor het ook kostentechnisch steeds beter mogelijk wordt. De ontwikkelingen van de bestaande EIP-groep zijn gestart op de zandgronden in het oostelijk deel van Brabant en zijn voornamelijk gericht op de verwerkende industrie.
Context
De consumptie van de bataat ofwel zoete aardappel heeft de afgelopen jaren een vlucht genomen. Deze wordt veelal geïmporteerd uit de US, wat gepaard gaat met een flinke (en overbodige) CO2-uitstoot. Uit onderzoek van de afgelopen jaren blijkt inmiddels dat een bataatteelt goed mogelijk is binnen Nederland.
