Contexte

2020–2023 bewies das EIP-Agri-Projekt „KI-Rebschnitt“: KI-gestützter Rebschnitt funktioniert. Jetzt wird das Verfahren auf Obstbau übertragen – für Apfelplantagen, Streuobstwiesen und Weinbergpfirsiche an Steillagen. Ein internationales Expertenteam entwickelt praxistaugliche KI-Prototypen, die bereits in Schulungen eingesetzt werden sollen.

Der Baumschnitt ist aufwändig, teuer und entscheidend für Dauerkulturen. Fehlendes Fachpersonal und Zeitmangel erschweren die Arbeit. Gesunde, resilientere Pflanzen sind essenziell, um Klimawandel und Biodiversitätsverlust zu bekämpfen. Regelmäßiger, fachgerechter Schnitt fördert Obstbäume und erhält Kulturlandschaften – eine dringende, ökologische Aufgabe.

Skilled labor shortage and climate change threaten agriculture

Pruning is labor-intensive, costly, and crucial for perennial crops. Lack of time and expert staff worsens the challenge. Healthy, resilient plants are vital to combat climate change and biodiversity loss. Regular, professional pruning supports fruit trees and preserves cultural landscapes — an urgent ecological task.

2020–2023, the EIP-Agri project "KI-Rebschnitt" proved AI-assisted vine pruning works. Now, the method is being adapted for fruit farming — focused on apple orchards, traditional meadow orchards, and steep-slope vineyard peaches. An international expert team is developing practical AI prototypes, already set for use in training programs.

AI Pruning promotes healthy orchards and addresses labor shortages: Using AI and smartphones, it analyzes plants, provides pruning guidance, and enables untrained workers to perform skilled tasks. This saves time and costs, secures jobs, and bridges the gap between research and practice — Applied Agriculture 4.0 for efficiency and sustainability.
