Saxon pig-holding farms are to be supported and accompanied in practice in the establishment of an action plan to avoid tail-docking.

Sächsische Schweine haltende Betriebe sollen bei der Etablierung eines „Aktionsplans Kupierverzicht“ in der Praxis unterstützt und begleitet werden.
Activities
In particular, the project highlights the following questions:
1. What is the prevalence of SINS-associated changes in body regions of suckling piglets, what are the operational influencing factors and what does the diagnosis mean for the further course of the animal's life?
2. Can the detection of SINS in suckling piglets be automated and objectified by imaging technology?
3. What influence does the feed composition for sows and for piglets during weaning and fattening have on the appearance of SINS?
Activities
Das Projekt beleuchtet insbesondere folgende Fragestellungen:
1. Wie hoch ist die Prävalenz SINS-assoziierter Veränderungen in Körperregionen von Saugferkeln, welche betrieblichen Einflussfaktoren bestehen und was bedeutet die Diagnose für den weiteren Lebensverlauf der Tiere?
2. Kann die Detektion von SINS bei Saugferkeln durch bildgebende Technik (teil-) automatisiert und objektiviert werden?
3. Welchen Einfluss hat die Futterzusammensetzung für Sauen sowie für Ferkel in Absetzphase und Mast auf das Auftreten von SINS?
