Stock de colostrum
After birth, the lambs must suck quickly the colostrum to expel the meconium, and to gain a supply of energy and immunity. To avoid the risk of insufficient amount of colostrum, Éric St Geniez always has a stock of cow colostrum in the freezer. Colostrum is packaged in 1-liter bottles (freezer packaging can also be done with ice-cube bags) that are thawed, if necessary, in a water-bath. It is then given at will in a bottle to lambs that require it.
Après la naissance, les agneaux doivent téter rapidement du colostrum pour expulser le méconium, et avoir un apport d’énergie et d’immunité. Pour pallier à tout risque de manque de colostrum, Éric St Geniez a toujours un stock de colostrum de vache au congélateur. Le colostrum est conditionné dans des bouteilles de 1 litre (le conditionnement au congélateur peut aussi se faire avec des poches à glaçon) et est décongelé, en cas de besoin, au bain-marie. Il est ensuite fourni à volonté au biberon aux agneaux le nécessitant.
