Objectives

Climate Change, frequent droughts and decreasing soil fertilitiy are increasing problems for the agriculture in Brandenburg. Could mob grazing offer an alternative to the common system of pasture? The practical approach targets this question by increasing forage cultivation to raise soil fertility and resilience of topsoil. At the same time it will be approached, if new mulch layers will be developed by the movement of the cows and if humus can be build in that process. Furthermore economical outcomes will be studied.

Objectives

Klimawandel, häufigere Dürren und abnehmende Bodenfruchtbarkeit werden zum Problem für die Landwirtschaft in Brandenburg. Könnte Mob Grazing für das Weidemanagement in trockenheitsgefährdeten Regionen eine Alternative zur üblichen Umtriebsweide bieten? Die praxisbezogene Begleitforschung geht dieser Frage nach, indem durch mehrjährigen Feldfutterbau die Fruchtbarkeit und Resilienz von Ackerböden nachhaltig erhöht wird. Auch wird untersucht, ob bei der intensiven Beweidung eine Überweidung vermieden werden kann und sich stattdessen durch den „Trampeleffekt“ Mulchschichten bilden, wodurch Humus aufgebaut werden kann. Zudem werden betriebswirtschaftliche Folgen beforscht.
