Objectives

De Bolayo teeltpot wordt ontwikkeld die zowel duurzaam is als gebruikt kan worden bij de teelt. Om deze pot naar de markt te kunnen brengen is het nodig om het productieproces verder te ontwikkelen en op grote schaal te testen.

Activities
There is a great need for a pot that is both biobased and well compostable, suitable for cultivation, and recognizable for the consumer, so that the pot does not end up in the normal garbage can. The consortium partners want to offer this solution in the form of the Bolayo cultivation pot: biobased plant pots made from used natural fibres. In contrast to the current paper pots, this pot is treated with a bio-resin, which makes it temporarily waterproof and easily survives the growing and home phase. In addition, the bio-resin makes the paper hard and the pot suitable for mechanical processing in large-scale cultivation.
Activities
Er is een grote behoefte aan een pot die én biobased en goed composteerbaar is, én geschikt is voor de teelt, én herkenbaar is voor de consument zodat de pot niet in de normale vuilnisbak beland. De consortiumpartners willen deze oplossing bieden in de vorm van de Bolayo teeltpot: biobased plantenpotten gemaakt van gebruikte natuurlijke vezels. In tegenstelling tot de huidige papieren potten, is deze pot behandeld met een bio-hars, waardoor het tijdelijk watervast wordt en de kweek-en thuisfase makkelijk overleeft. Bovendien wordt door het bio-hars het papier hard en de pot geschikt voor mechanische verwerking in de grootschalige teelt.
Context
In de land- en tuinbouwsector in Nederland worden 4 miljard plastic potten per jaar gebruikt. Deze potten worden ingezet bij de teelt, maar ook om producten in te verkopen (bollenteelt, plantenkwekers, boomkwekerijen). De plastic potten komen veelal bij de consument terecht. Maar slechts 20% van het plastic dat bij de consument terechtkomt, wordt gerecycled. De maatschappelijk roep om het vervangen van plastic door milieuvriendelijke alternatieven is groot, en vanuit de hele keten van teler, consument, retailer en groothandel is er vraag naar een pot van duurzaam materiaal.
