1 Practice Abstracts

Hop leaves are available in large quantities and there is hardly any competition for their use. However, it is difficult to handle as it only accumulates during the hop harvesting season (August/September) and would therefore have to be preserved and stored all year round. Furthermore, it is not approved as animal feed. The objective is to uncover synergies between hop cultivation and insect fattening and to find a way to utilize them. The focus is on feeding the larvae of the black soldier fly with residues from the harvest and processing them. In this way, high-quality animal protein and valuable fertilizer (insect frass) can be produced from residual materials.

Hopfenlaub ist in großen Mengen verfügbar und steht in kaum einer Nutzungskonkurrenz. Allerdings ist es im Handling schwierig, da es nur zur Hopfenerntezeit (August/September) anfällt und somit ganzjährig konserviert und gelagert werden müsste. Außerdem hat es keine Zulassung als Nutztierfutter. Ziel ist es, Synergien zwischen Hopfenanbau und Insektenmast aufzudecken und einen Weg zu finden, diese nutzbar zu machen. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf der Fütterung von Reststoffen aus der Ernte und der Verarbeitung an die Larven der Schwarzen Soldatenfliege. Damit kann aus Reststoffen hochwertiges tierisches Protein und wertvoller Dünger (Insektenfrass) produziert werden.
