THE SILK ROAD: silk production and commercial routes in rural areas of Europe

Start date: 18 Mar 2026, End date: 31 Mai 2026

Résumé

Following the ‘living lab’ workshops launched by CREA in 2025 on the Silk Road, LAG DELTA 2000 joined the promoting committee to develop a LEADER cooperation project in close synergy with CREA and the LAGs involved. Building on the work initiated by the Horizon ARACNE project, the initiative focuses on the historical routes, production processes and trade of silk in Europe, enhancing archival sources and oral testimonies to reconstruct the full value chain and support the creation of a cultural Silk Road itinerary in Italy and Europe, promoting rural areas. In line with the guidelines of the European Council, the project may address topics such as textile activities from craftsmanship to industry; silkworm rearing and its social, economic and landscape impact; silk in painting, fashion and design; research and innovation in silk production; and historical sites linked to trade, spinning mills and traditional markets.
