EU CAP Network Magazine - Issue 4

Across Europe, farmers contribute far beyond food production. This fourth issue of the EU CAP Network magazine highlights how their work supports rural communities, protects natural resources, and strengthens vibrant rural areas.

From a social perspective, this edition looks at improving the public perception of farming, unlocking the potential of forest by-products for resilient rural economies, and securing the future of agriculture and rural life through generational renewal.

From an environmental perspective, the magazine also explores farmers’ environmental contributions through eco-schemes and green architecture interventions to protect biodiversity and increase water resilience. Innovation in agri-food logistics contributes to a sustainable and competitive supply chain.

From an economic perspective, this issue further examines the importance of digital innovation to foster competitiveness, as well as the role of quality schemes and short supply chains in strengthening sustainable food systems. Finally, this edition of the Magazine presents an update on EU CAP Network communication.

The EU CAP Network helps ensure that promising approaches in farming do not remain confined to specific regions but become shared European solutions. By fostering peer learning, thematic exchanges, cross-visits and collaborative initiatives, it supports the circulation of knowledge and practical experience across Europe. In this way, it also contributes to highlighting the contribution of farmers towards a sustainable society.

In light of this, the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) provides an important framework for helping farmers respond to environmental and climate challenges while also addressing market and economic risks. Its tools and interventions can work together to support more sustainable and resilient farming, improve competitiveness, and strengthen the long-term viability of rural areas. As this magazine shows, the CAP can help farmers adapt, innovate, and continue to contribute to a more sustainable society.
