Activities

Based on camera images (remote sensing) of at least 50 hectares of orchards just after harvesting and on interviews with growers, an initial inventory will be made of the presence and severity of pear decline in Flemish pear cultivation. Specific attention will be paid to investigating the causes and spread of the disease, and research will also be conducted into the factors that promote or inhibit the disease. Preliminary tests will be set up for the remediation of declining trees. Four remediation techniques will be tested: watering with humic acids, watering with iron chelate and calcium nitrate, a combination of both, and finally the creation of vertical wounds above the grafting site for the production of callus tissue. Finally, molecular analyses will be used to verify whether pear decline is more prevalent in new pear varieties.

Op basis van camerabeelden (remote sensing) van minstens 50 ha boomgaarden net na de pluk en op basis van interviews met telers wordt in een eerste fase een inventarisatie gemaakt over de aanwezigheid en ernst van pear decline in de Vlaamse perenteelt. Er is specifieke aandacht voor het onderzoeken van de oorzaken en verspreiding van de ziekte en er zal ook onderzocht worden welke factoren de ziekte bevorderen of afremmen. Preliminaire tests worden opgezet voor remediatie van wegkwijnende bomen. Hierbij worden 4 remediatie technieken getest: aangieten met huminezuren, aangieten met ijzerchelaat en calciumnitraat, combinatie van beide en ten slotte creatie van verticale wonden pver de entplaats voor de aanmaak van callusweefsel. Ten slotte wordt geverifieerd of pear decline meer voorkomt bij nieuwe perenrassen door middel van moleculaire analyses.
