Among the results of “Quantitative Inventory and Representative Sampling of Beech Forests at the National Level”, the following aspects can be highlighted:
a) Information on the status of beech forests in Spain and their market has been compiled into a handbook. This document analyses the potential, harvesting, imports and exports of beech wood, as well as identifying weaknesses, bottlenecks, and needs, which are summarised into actionable proposals. This new knowledge can be utilised by end users to understand the context and situation of beech forests, as well as to identify and implement actions to overcome the barriers hindering forestry activities in beech woodlands. It also aims to facilitate and make forestry work in these areas more attractive, while increasing resource awareness to aid decision-making.
b) High-resolution mapping (with a 25-m pixel size) has been generated for the entire area of interest (approximately 200,000 ha) using LiDAR data and modelling procedures. This mapping predicts timber stocks and other variables of great importance for managing beech forests. This product is of significant interest for both planning and management purposes, as it provides crucial information on where, when, and how much beech wood could be sustainably harvested.
