The action envisaged the analysis of the physical-mechanical characteristics and of the natural durability, also taking into account the possible industrial transformations that were followed by the other project partners.
The characterization tests provided for the determination of:
• Density
• Linear shrinkage, volumetric and dimensional stability
• Flexural modulus
• Flexural strength
• Shear strength
• Compressive strength
• Superficial hardness
• Aptitude for gluing
• Natural durability
The values relating to the quantity of carbon stored in the wood (and in the derived products if available) were also calculated, thus being able to provide the project with an important contribution in terms of carbon storage and the competitiveness of forest systems.
Accomplished results:
• Identification of possible industrial applications for Paulownia wood based on the results of the wood characterization in terms of physical-mechanical properties and durability;
L’azione ha previsto l’analisi delle caratteristiche fisico-meccaniche e della durabilità naturale ha tenuto anche conto delle possibili trasformazioni industriali che sono state seguite dagli altri partner del progetto.
Le prove di caratterizzazione hanno previsto la determinazione di:
• Massa volumica
• Ritiri lineari, volumetrico e stabilità dimensionale
• Modulo elastico a flessione
• Resistenza a flessione
• Resistenza a taglio
• Resistenza a compressione
• Durezza superficiale
• Attitudine all’incollaggio
• Durabilità naturale
Sono stati inoltre calcolati i valori relativi alla quantità di carbonio immagazzinata nel legno (e nei prodotti derivati se disponibili), potendo quindi fornire al progetto un contributo importante nell'ottica dello stoccaggio del carbonio e della competitività dei sistemi forestali.
Risultati raggiunti:
• Identificazione di possibili applicazioni industriali per il legno di Paulownia sulla base dei risultati della caratterizzazione legno in termini di proprietà fisico-meccaniche e di durabilità;
