Activities

The project (duration of thirty months) consists of the following activities:

Action A1 - Project management

Action B1 - Studies necessary for the realization of the plan

Action B2 - specific actions: streamlining of the farm's organizational and production model through IoT. Sensors and weather stations will be installed in the fields of OG farms to collect data and develop Artificial Intelligence algorithms to make predictions about product quality.

Action B3 - specific actions: improving the quality of medicinal and aromatic crop productions through controlled elicitation. Different elicitors will be tested in field trials to stimulate the production of active ingredients in some selected MAPs

Action B4 - specific actions: elaboration of the results obtained and assessment of the environmental sustainability of good farming practices identified as a result of the application of process innovation

Action B5 - Dissemination: the dissemination plan includes activities such as guided tours to the experimental fields, actions to implement the PEI network through connections with other projects with related issues, creation of a web space, a video usable also for deaf people, information materials (brochures and podcasts), organization of lectures/workshops/practical activities related to people in convict status.

Action B6 - Training and counseling: the transfer of knowledge gained within the project activities will be carried out through training and counseling activities aimed at providing basic skills in the application of sustainable and technologically advanced agriculture in the medicinal and aromatic plant supply chain but potentially extendable to other production chains.

Activities

Il progetto (durata di trenta mesi), si articola nelle seguenti attività:

Azione A1 - Esercizio della cooperazione: coordinamento

Azione B1 - Studi necessari alla realizzazione del piano

Azione B2 – azioni specifiche: efficientamento del modello organizzativo e produttivo aziendale mediante IoT. Nei campi delle aziende del GO verranno installati sensori e centraline meteo per raccogliere dati e sviluppare algoritmi di IA per effettuare predizioni sulla qualità del prodotto.

Azione B3 – azioni specifiche: miglioramento della qualità delle produzioni officinali mediante elicitazione controllata. Verranno testati in prove di pieno campo diversi elicitori per stimolare la produzione dei principi attivi in alcune colture officinali

Azione B4 – azioni specifiche: elaborazione dei risultati e valutazione della sostenibilità ambientale delle buone pratiche di coltivazione individuate in seguito all’applicazione dell’innovazione di processo

Azione B5 – Divulgazione: visite guidate ai campi sperimentali, azioni di implementazione della rete PEI tramite connessioni con altri progetti con tematiche affini, realizzazione di uno spazio web, di un video fruibile anche per i non udenti, di materiale informativo (brochure e podcasts), organizzazione di lezioni/laboratori/attività pratiche per persone in stato di detenzione.

Azione B6 - Formazione e consulenza: le attività di formazione e consulenza saranno volte a fornire competenze di base nell'applicazione dell’agricoltura sostenibile e tecnologicamente avanzata nella filiera delle piante officinali ma potenzialmente estendibile ad altre filiere produttive.

1 Practice Abstracts

The environmental challenges that agriculture must face and the growing interest in medicinal and aromatic species as a complementary or alternative production in the national farming system make this sector fertile for the introduction of process and product innovations. Increasing the sustainability of the agricultural model through innovation is, therefore, one of the most important challenges of the near future, to enable the Italian agricultural sector, and not only, to increase quality production and at the same time protect the environment.

The overall goal of TRACE is to develop a new organizational model of supply chain management in order to ensure the full achievement of minimum product quality specifications (minimum active ingredient content of crops), environmental sustainability of the production process, and to make the necessary information transferable to the end customer, effectively and safely.

Le sfide ambientali a cui l’agricoltura deve far fronte e il crescente interesse per le specie officinali come produzione complementare o alternativa nell’impresa agricola nazionale rendono tale comparto fertile per l’introduzione di innovazioni di processo e di prodotto. Aumentare la sostenibilità del modello agricolo attraverso l'innovazione è, quindi, una delle sfide più importanti del prossimo futuro, per consentire al comparto agricolo italiano, e non solo, di incrementare le produzioni di qualità e allo stesso tempo tutelare l’ambiente.

L’obiettivo generale di TRACE è quello di sviluppare un nuovo modello organizzativo di gestione della filiera al fine di garantire il pieno raggiungimento delle specifiche qualitative minime dei prodotti (contenuto minimo di principio attivo delle colture), la sostenibilità ambientale del processo produttivo e di rendere trasferibili le informazioni necessarie al cliente finale, in modo efficace e sicuro.
