Despite hemp's potential as one of the most sustainable and nutritious plants for plant-based diets, it faces hurdles when it comes to wide use as an ingredient. Challenges include low protein, undesirable off-taste, the presence of antinutrients (similar to those found in legumes, nuts, and seeds), and a lack of economic viability. Hemisphere Technologies has already shown promising results in small-scale tests in terms of: a. high protein content b. good taste c. a holistic view of the value of hemp's use. The project will benefit Swedish farmers and food producers by meeting the growing interest in plant-based alternatives to animal products. By promoting hemp cultivation and developing hemp-based products, a new market is created where farmers can take advantage of high demand and increase their profitability. The innovation focuses on creating a hemp-based protein concentrate with minimal antinutrients and a neutral flavor profile. Through collaboration and knowledge exchange with experts in hemp cultivation and protein technology, the aim is to maximize yields and refine the production chain. In this project, cultivation and harvesting techniques will be optimized and a pilot plant for hemp protein will be built where maximum antinutrients are eliminated. Acanova's process is patent pending (and received initial approval from the patent office, which makes it likely that a patent will be obtained) and gives us a unique advantage over competitors.
