Context

There is no method that provides farmers with sufficient insight into ammonia emissions to clarify the implications of management measures, such as feed adjustments. Farmers are willing to take measures but want to see the impact. There is a strong need within the agricultural sector to gain more insight into actual ammonia emissions on the farm by measuring rather than calculating.

Objectives

The aim of the cooperation is to be able to demonstrably reduce ammonia emissions through management measures, based on research with research institutions and practical consultancies. To this end, insight is provided into the effect of measures via the measured ammonia content in manure samples.

Objectives

Activities

This project tracks nitrogen from excretion to manure application to reduce ammonia emissions. By monitoring the decrease in Total Ammoniacal Nitrogen (TAN) in manure, targeted measures such as feed optimization can be applied to reduce emissions. Retaining nitrogen in manure improves the nitrogen cycle, saves costs on fertilizer and reduces environmental damage. Although TAN is well known as an indicator of ammonia emissions, improved measurement methods are needed to develop more accurate strategies and update models.

Activities
