Agroecology and Sustainable Tourism: Women Sowing the Future

The Spanish CAP Network (Red PAC), in collaboration with ADER La Palma, is organising the event "Agroecology and Sustainable Tourism: Women Sowing the Future", to be held on 9 September 2026 at EcoFinca Nogales, La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain).

The event is organised within the framework of the Spanish CAP Strategic Plan (CSP), which promotes the socio-economic development of rural areas by supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, social inclusion and the active participation of women in agriculture and the rural economy. It also takes place during the 2026 International Year of the Woman Farmer, declared by the United Nations, highlighting the essential contribution of women to resilient and sustainable rural communities.

The event aims to showcase inspiring women-led agroecological initiatives that have successfully diversified their activities through sustainable tourism, environmental education and other complementary rural businesses. Participants will explore practical experiences, exchange knowledge and discuss how diversification can strengthen farm resilience, create new income opportunities and contribute to environmental protection and local development.

The programme will bring together farmers, livestock keepers, rural tourism professionals, researchers, advisers, Local Action Groups, public authorities and other rural stakeholders from the Canary Islands and mainland Spain. Through presentations, a panel discussion, networking activities and a field visit, participants will have the opportunity to learn from innovative projects, establish new collaborations and exchange ideas that can be transferred to other rural territories across Europe.
